Harvest time!
Time to harvest from my little square foot garden!
A single, perfect Cherry Tomato. Too cute to eat.
His hundreds of brothers should be ready soon!
An update…with a snack…
So, woe is me with Windows 7. Apparently there is no real fix to the network connection dropping everytime the computer sleeps or hibernates. Boo Microsoft! Until that evil empire gets on board, and pushes some real update to fix it, I’ve gone the “disable sleep and hibernate” route. Hey man, whatever works, right?
My little square foot garden is plugging right along though. I have some baby veggies growing up before my eyes! Nothing’s ready to harvest yet though.
Now these zucchinis aren’t from my garden, seeing as how mine are barely over an inch long. These came from a friend, which I promptly turned into bread!
Monster Zucchini:

Lots and lots of zucchini bread to snack on!

Square Foot Gardening
This year I wanted to make a real attempt at having a garden. I’ve grown a few plants in the past, but nothing crazy, just some tomatoes in pots, and some squash in my flower bed. Over the winter and spring I researched Square Foot Gardening. The concept is quite simple, you build (or buy) a raised bed, split into square foot squares, and plant some veggies or fruits!
Hubs built my bed for me out of some 2×8′s. It took him all of 10 minutes. He lined it with some weed fabric, filled it with potting soil, and I planted my little baby plants. The night I bought them, we had an awful hail storm, and I thought the babies were goners. I only managed to lose the pumpkin plant though, which I ended up finally replacing last week.
Here’s my little square foot garden in all it’s glory…isn’t it so cute?
Here’s everything I have planted: Cherry tomato, regular Big Boy tomato, burpless cucumber, pickling cucumber, jalapeno, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, green bell pepper, yellow summer squash, green zucchini, cantaloupe, & pumpkin.

Amazon also has books all about it. I recommend this one:
I’ll post some updates once I actually get a harvest (that is, IF I get a harvest)!!
Peonies abound
It’s been quite a while since I posted anything other than papercrafts here on my blog. Since I am *supercraftygirl* here’s something that’s not a card!
When I built my house 5 years ago, I knew I wanted to plant Peonies. My mother in law has the most beautiful ones, and she gets zillions of flowers each spring. I planted three plants about 4 years ago, and have only gotten like 5 flowers total out of them in those 4 years!
Well, this year must be the turning point (maybe all this rain we’ve been getting finally did some good!), because I have tons of flowers this year! Just out of nowhere, they’re all blooming. Now I want to get more to plant. Is there a such thing as white peonies?
I love the reflection in the water drop on this one.
This one should be fully open in the next couple days!
I’m going to try to post more photography here more often
Enjoy!!
How does your garden grow?
This year we decided to do something a little different, and grow some tomatoes. I’m the only one that eats them, so I decided to get one of the “patio” variety plants, thinking that it would produce less tomatoes. Boy was I wrong!
Here’s my plant, as of this week:
I counted no less than 20 tomatoes! I suppose I’ll need to find some good sauce and salsa recipes…soon!
There was one red one – I plucked that off and ate it for lunch today. It was the best tasting tomato EVER! What I like most is knowing what all went into it – NOTHING. I did nothing more than put water on this plant. Organic eating at it’s finest!
Even my English Bulldog Ellie Mae tried to get in on the action:
Sorry pup! No tomatoes for you!!
